JULY NOTES

The end of June is upon us and it has been an extremely busy month for all of the family groups of the American Legion.  We will be having our first meeting since our election of officers in April on Monday June 25, 2018 at 7:30 PM.  Covered dished dinner is at 6:30 PM, come early and enjoy dinner with everyone.

The 4thof July is coming up and we will need younger ladies to walk the parade route handing out flags to everyone along the way.  Please let one of the Auxiliary officers know if you can help out.

The 2nd Thursday dinner night has changed to a full menu meal instead of just hamburger and it is going very well.  We would like to have more of our Auxiliary ladies sign up to work one or two of the months during the year so the same ladies are not working all the time. Please sign up to help out.

Bingo can always use volunteers.  Concession workers, paper sellers, callers, floor walkers, people to clean the hall the next day after bingo and other jobs for volunteers are needed filled.  Please contact any officer if you can help.

Remember our work is for our Veterans not self.

God Bless our veterans & our volunteers!

Edie Griffin, ALA President

JUNE NOTES

By the time you receive this newsletter we will have already had our Girls State Tea & Boys State meetings by Marcia Fletcher, Girl’s State Chairperson for our Unit 68 and District 7.  The Department Girls’ State Director Rachel Barnes was present to help give out new information and changes that will be coming. Also Troy Fowler, Director of Boy’s State was present to help out with the boy’s side of the meeting.  Fantastic job was done by Marcia and thank you to Commander Ehart for being the photographer, as the Hutchinson News does not provide one on Sundays any longer.

Department Convention May 18-20 will be over and I hope you all took the time to enjoy at least part of the Convention right here in our town.

Memorial Day activities will probably be over or in the middle of being done.  Please check your calendars for times of the Programs on Monday May 28, 2018.

June 14, 2018 is Flag Day and the Boy Scouts will be doing the Flag retirement program here at our Post.  Please try and attend if possible.  It is very moving to see, here and participate in this service. Bring your lawn chairs.
Starting in June, the 2ndThursday Auxiliary Hamburger Nightwill be a Full Menu Nightlike we have for Bingo on Tuesday & Friday nights.  You will be able to order anything that is on the menu board in the main hall.  Come try our new selections and give us your feedback on how you like it.

We still need workers for Auxiliary Hamburger Thursdays on the 2ndThursday of the month.  Thank you to some of the ALR men who help us out on this Thursday or we would not have enough workers to get it done.  Please volunteer to help if possible.

Bingo needs more volunteers to help out on Tuesday and Fridays.  We need callers for bingo, Floor walkers, table workers selling papers and concession stand workers for every Tuesday and Friday.  Please let myself, Roberta Allen, Jeremy Ehart, or George Lawrence know if you can help out.  Thank you to those that have stepped up to help.  Without bingos income we might not be able to keep going with this nice facility we have.  Please give one or two nights a month!

Keep our service men and women in your thoughts and prayers,

God Bless America

February Notes

Ladies we have the most awesome auxiliary group in the State of Kansas and I want you all to know it if you do not know already!  After last month’s newsletter I received a texted message from one of our auxiliary members donating her long arm quilting machine time to do the quilting of the quilt top that was donated to us for a fund raiser.  Ladies, this is such a fantastic donation right along with the quilt top.  Roberta Allen has the quilt top right now doing the measuring for the back fabric size we will need and then we will be on our way to getting it done.  I am always amazed at talents we have in our group when we just ask for help!  Thanks so much for allowing me to be a part of this wonderful organization.

Mid-Winter Forum is in Manhattan this year on Feb 3-4th.  Registration forms are on the www.kslegionaux.org website or I can print you off one at the Legion.

Rib feed for the kick-off of the NJCAA Basketball Tournament is February 15, 2018.   I am sure there will need to be workers needed to help serve this meal.  Please see Regina Redman if you can help.

We still need workers for Auxiliary Hamburger Thursdays on the 2nd Thursday of the month.  Thank you to some of the ALR men who help us out on this Tuesday or we would not have enough workers to get it done.  Please volunteer to help if possible.

January Notes

AUXHAPPY NEW YEAR TO EVERYONE!

The New Year is here and we have some interesting events and meetings going on for the second half of our year of 2017-2018.  I hope all of you are as excited to get started with a fresh slate as I am.

I have had the privilege of having a quilt top donated to us but I need some of our auxiliary ladies to volunteer to be a committee to finish this quilt so it can be used for a raffle to help make some money to go back into the auxiliary account.  I know we have several experience quilters in our group and hope they will help complete this project.  Maybe do a work day or so at the Legion home, on a day that is not being used for other meetings, to finish the quilt.  Please get with me if you are interested in doing this project.

Our January meeting is on 22nd, and there is a volunteer dinner before the meeting.  If you have volunteered for anything this last year, please mark your calendar to come to this dinner in your honor.  Plan to stay for the Auxiliary and Post meetings following the dinner.

Mid-Winter Forum is in Manhattan this year on Feb 3-4th.  Registration forms are on the www.kslegionaux.org website or I can print you off one at the Legion.

December Notes

It is so unbelievable that we are now in the middle of November moving quickly to the end of this year.  Many activities have taken place this year and many great events have been held here at our Post home.  We all should be proud of the work our volunteers are doing to keep our Post home in such good condition for all of us to enjoy.  It would be so much better if more of our members would take advantage of this wonderful building and the fellowship that is offered on a daily basis.

We serve excellent meals every Thursday evening and Saturday lunches can’t be bought anywhere else in town for the price.  Every third Saturday evening we have a Fried Chicken Buffet and we would do more if we could see that our members would come and participate.

Please let Jeremy Ehart, Commander, know what you would like to have for drawing events at our Post so we can start using it to its full capability for all of our Legion Family Members.

Other posts have game nights or movie nights so all can get together.  Let’s see what we can do to make sure we are serving all the needs.

With the holidays please check on our shut-ins and those in the nursing homes and VA centers and make sure they know they are not forgotten.

Keep our service men and women in your thoughts and prayers,

God Bless America

Edie Griffin, ALA President

June Newsletter Notes

Most all schools are out and graduations are over! Now on to our summer vacations and other sport activities we all enjoy as parents and Grandparents.

We want to make sure we do not forget our Veterans during our busy summer months.  Please keep your donations to the VA, cards of encouragement, The Honor Flights, Wounded Warrior Battalion at Ft. Riley and the many others too numerous to mention here.

At our last meeting we voted to raise our Auxiliary dues to $28.00 a year for the 2018 year.  National is going to be raising their dues which in turn mean we have to raise ours also.  If you look on your membership card it tells you we have to send $17.50 into the State from each of the $22.50 we collect now.  State then send a portion to National for their magazine and other expenses.  This leaves $5.00 for us to keep in our treasury to do the work we do for the Veterans.  If National raises their dues $5.00 for 2018 then we would have nothing to keep in our treasury.  July 1, 2017 our dues will be $28.00 for 2018.

Please keep in mind with your membership you also are entitled to a free death insurance of $1000.00.  Make sure you are signed up for this free benefit.

The 2018 membership dues will begin being taken on July 1, 2017.  If you would like to pay yours before National sends out their first notice in September you may do so by contacting Vicki Tracy, our membership chairperson at 620-664-1672.

Continue to fulfill our mission and help grow the American Legion Auxiliary!

God bless our military and pray for our Nation!!
